Plant Cytokinesis

This is an electron micrograph of a cell from pea root tip, showing the forming cell plate (Liu et al, unpublished data). Two dark stained areas are separated chromosomes at the later stage of mitosis (telophase), and the small vacuolar structures aligned between the chromosomes are fused visicles which come from Golgi and contain cell wall materials. The plant cell plate formation starts from the center of the cell and expands centrifugally to reach the mother walls.
