Sanwen Huang received his PhD on January 31, 2005, from Wageningen University. Professor N. Speelman, the Rector Magnificus, congratulates him after the ceremony. Sanwen returned to the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences on February 3, 2005, to work on the potato genome project. The Chinese Ambassador, Dr. Xue Hanqin, also attended the event. |

Dr. Ling Qin (Lab of Nematology, Wageningen University) has recently been awarded the prestigious Veni grant from the Dutch Science Foundation (NWO). Veni is part of the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme, which was set up in 2000 by NWO, KNAW (Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences) and the universities jointly. The aim is to give talented, creative researchers the opportunity to conduct their own research programme independently and promote talented researchers to enter and remain committed to the scientific profession. Wang Ying and Wang Min, the wives of Liu Chun-Ming and Huang Sanwen, respectively, had their Chinese Art Show in The Education Section, Chinese Embassy in Den Haag in August, 2003. Currently these two artists is having their exhibition in the Wageningen City Library. |
| Dr. Liao Yi's company, Axon Biochemicals, is on the spot light at the BioMedCity on Sept. 25, 2004. The company is searching for drug candidates for Parkinson's disease and schizophrenia. With EU funding-and together with two fellow SMEs-Axon Biochemicals B.V. from Groningen is developing drug candidates for treating Parkinson's disease and/or schizophrenia. Managing director Dr. Yi Liao confirmed that in addition the company has succeeded in winning two license transferring agreements with outside pharmaceutical companies since its business operations began in 1999. | |

Dr. Bob Su moved to ITC as a professor (from Oct. 1, 2004). After 7 years and 10 months at the Staring Centre and Alterra
doing interesting researches with the support of many of you, it is time for Bob
to move on. His next destination will be the International Institute for
Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in Enschede as Professor of
Spatial Hydrology and Water Resources Management. We wish him all the best.
