Meeting report

Ten CNLN committee members have gathered together in Wageningen on Aug. 24, 2003, to attend the CNLN 2nd committee meeting. The aim of this meeting is to discuss how should we organize the "Dutch-Chinese Biotechnology Forum" on October 12, 2003. I am glad to say that it is very fruitful meeting.

Summary of the Meeting

 Title of the Forum: Dutch-Chinese Biotechnology Form

    >> There have been some discussion about the name, there could be confusions in certain ways, suggesting it will be a Netherlands-China bilateral meeting, which of course is not the case. It is possible to have one speakers from a real Dutch person, but no more than that. Other members think it does not matter so much. If anybody come up with a better name, please inform me.

Aim of the Forum:

    >> The discussion has allowed us the define the following three aims:

bulletTo present the state-of-the-art biotechnology research and development
bulletTo stimulate the communication and collaboration among Chinese agricultural and medical biotech researchers
bulletTo bridge the connection between European academic and industrial biotech institutions with the Chinese counterparts.

    Chinese Network of Life-Sciences in Netherlands (CNLN)

        Co-organizer:

    >> VCWI. There seems some added value to have VCWI as the co-organizer, if VCWI could provide additional support in publicity and sponsorship. I will discuss VCWI on Aug. 29, and decide after discussing to CNLN members again.

    >> ASSNL. No particular reasons to be involved. We may use the ASSNL network to send the announcement.

bulletApparently Oct. 12 is not the optimal day since it is Sunday and many people will have to work in the following day. Prof. Xu (president of Peking University will have to leave in the afternoon). But we could not book the meeting room on Saturday since there is a conflicts. We will see if we could find another location (San-wen and Chun-Ming will take some actions).
bulletThe starting time, should be no later than 10:00. People from Groningen and Maarstricht may have to travel early.

    Everybody could suggest invited speakers at the moment, to cover different research area. The Scientific co-chairs will decide the speakers in each topic. Please send your information to the Co-chairs by Aug. 29 (Friday).

Registration and abstracts:

    We will collect small amount of money from each participant, to make sure they are really serious participants. The money will be used to cover lunch, stationary, batches and folders.

    €5 student/visiting researcher

    €10 Full time employee

    All abstracts will be sent to Sanwen by October 1, 2003. An abstract book will be made, which should include contact information as well.

    A flyer will be made to be used as announcement. Chun-Ming will take some actions on this.
